How a Time Policy Can Help Make Your Day At Work More Effective

 office organizing with clock

Time Policy Chart – (the times are only examples)

7:00am- 9:00am:    (Voicemail, Emails, In-Box Correspondence) *Fill in your own tasks
9:00am – 10:30am:  (Quiet Hour – Priority Tasks) *Fill in your own tasks
10:30am- 12noon:  (Appointments, Meetings, Calls, Correspondence) *Fill in your own tasks
12noon – 12 :30pm:  (Mail, Voice mail, Emails) *Fill in your own tasks
12:30pm-2 :00pm:  (Exercise – Lunch) *Fill in your own tasks
2:00pm – 4 :00pm:  (Appointments – Priority Tasks) *Fill in your own tasks
4 :00pm- 5 :00pm:  (Meetings, Assignments, Calls) *Fill in your own tasks

A Time Policy is a guide to be used in scheduling your tasks, appointments, meetings and other activities. It involves reserving certain Time Periods of the day for specific tasks and projects. The first thing you need to find out is what is your Prime-Time? Me, I’m a “morning person” – I can get most of my task done by 10:30 am. You need to create a policy that will utilize your prime time, and not set yourself up for failure by scheduling appointments, meetings, or making important calls during the times when you’re feeling sluggish. This makes your day more effective in several ways:

    1. The Routine = it will eventually become one . . . I promise – performing the same type of tasks at the same time each day reduces the brain’s “plan-time” – That time it normally takes to get to get your shit together and orient a plan to the task, the plan is already in place by your Time Policy.
    1. Natural Breaks – it allows you to make use of  the natural breaks in a day – use: coffee, lunch, quitting time as deadlines to prevent jobs expanding beyond the allotted time space.
  1. Meetings & Appointments – which tend to take twice as long as they should – A Time Policy  ensures that you use your prime time effectively for priority tasks and assignments.

So, go ahead and set-up your time policy – the first one I made was in 1998 it was written on a piece of 2″x 3″ notepad paper, I promised myself I would write out my time policy every morning (I am a morning person) for 21 days. . . the rest is history. You will have to experiment a few times before you finalize your own Time Policy, of course you can update at anytime according to your lifestyle and work career.

Pumpkin Riccota LasagnaPumpkin Ricotta lasagna

Recipe by Lori Hirsch Stokoe – Found On: glutenfreeliving.com

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup fresh sage leaves, chopped, plus more whole leaves for garnish
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 15 ounces ricotta
  • 10 ounces pumpkin puree
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • Béchamel Sauce aka White Sauce
  • 4 tablespoon butter
  • 4 tablespoon gluten-free flour
  • 2½ cup milk, warmed
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

lasagna

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. First, prepare the Pumpkin Ricotta Mixture: Fry the sage in butter until crisp. Remove to paper towel. Then combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  2. Next, make the Béchamel Sauce aka White Sauce: Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and whisk to cook the flour, about 2 minutes. Slowly add the milk and continue to stir. Bring to barely a boil then immediately turn down the heat. Cook, whisking until thickened for about 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Season with nutmeg, salt and pepper.
  3. Spread ½ cup of the White Sauce over the bottom of a greased 8-inch-square (2-quart) baking dish. Place 2 sheets of no-boil lasagna noodles atop the sauce in a single layer.
  4. Top lasagna noodles with a third of the ricotta mixture. Layer with a quarter of the mozzarella. Then top with a third of the remaining White Sauce. Top sauce with 2 more sheets of lasagna noodles to build the second and third layers the same way.
  5. For the top layer, place last 2 sheets of lasagna over the White Sauce. Top with remaining mozzarella.
  6. Bake at 375° F for 35 minutes, covered with foil. Uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes, until the lasagna is bubbling hot and the top is browning. Remove from the oven and let sit at least 10 minutes before cutting. Garnish with fried whole sage leaves.

Today I Salute The Warriors Left Behind

I am posting this VERY early draft of the pictures my Mom and I have collected from the Navy Housings we lived in. First, I Salute the Men & Women that stand on that wall for ALL of us – never asking why. I wanted to also salute the ones that are left behind – The Moms and Kids – we served, we did our part. Our Moms kept the house running smooth, food on the table, clean clothes on our backs, and great memories to carry us through the tough times. They were our Warriors . . . I Salute You

These pictures are from Dolphin Gardens – Navy Housing in Groton CT 1976 – 1982
