Just what are the benefits of being organized?
It’s potentially a long list, but I’ve narrowed it down to what has affected me and my clients the most.
Read on for what I consider the benefits of having an Organize & Simplify Life, at home and at work.
- Less stress. Above anything else, this is the number one reason to burn calories to stay on top of things. Here’s a great example: one of my clients is making a concerted effort to keep their office neat and tidy, the client works from home and the office is in their dining room. We added a bulletin board and have a designated home for everything: inbox, keys, wallet, office supplies, charger cables, and more. Now, when they need something, they know exactly where it is. This fact reduces stress and allows them to …
- Relax more. I once saw a plaque at HomeGoods that read, “Organized people are just too lazy to search for stuff.” Yeah, that’s cute, I’m the “lazy” one mentioned in the punchline. Less time spent running around equals more time Just, more time to do what I want to do, like …
- Spend time with your family. Getting clean and clear professionally and personally means you’ve got more time to spend with the ones most important to you. For example, my workday ends at 2:00, as I drive home. I know that I’ll be spending the next six hours with my animals, art, and writing until my husband comes home. That’s easy to do when I take care of all my “work stuff” before then.
- Be ready for an emergency. I’m sure you know how this goes: life throws a wrench into the works that interrupt your plans in a major way. Being prepared ahead of time lessens the shock. For example, I have designated an “emergency” office and a very -portable setup ready. That way, if my Internet goes down at home, or a renovation crew happens to set up outside my window, I already know where I’m going to go to work and what I need.
- The overwhelming seems manageable. I don’t care if you’re talking about work, the kids, or home management, but it’s an awesome feeling to have every project outlined, and every action step that stands between you and your project is completed. When you do this, you’ll be able to look at a daunting to-do list and feel like you’re on top of it and capable of doing what needs to be done.
- Improved health. The stress I mentioned earlier, which even I feel when things start to get out of control, does not promote good health. There are numerous studies that demonstrate a link between sustained high levels of stress and a variety of health problems. Read this → Why disorganization causes stress
- It’s the little things. Just turning over a single load of clothes per day makes all the difference. Little things like making sure the kids put their jacket and shoes away each day after school improves your family’s ability to easily function with purpose.
- Greater productivity. When you know where things are, what your goals are, and take care of the piddly “busy work” as it appears, you’ve got significantly more time and energy for the big goals in life.
An organized life takes some doing, and you’re going to slip up. No one is clean and clear all day, every day! But when you strive to do the best you can, you’ll experience the benefits listed above … and more. May you experience the best of an Organize & Simplify Life.

#TrendyTuesday
I have posted this video before . . . it’s worth a second time!
The DIY hacks in this video are so simple and easy. I have made the trays in the past for staging projects they came out looking wonderful. The candy dishes I am going to do in another combination of colors for the holidays – they are so charming.

#MotivationalMondays
Chanel Miller is the kind of young lady that will motivate you to do the right in a wrong.
I wish I had this brave young lady to listen to when I met my monster in the night, she would have empowered me to do the right in a wrong and not sit in my garden of shame and quilt. That’s what I did, what other woman did in the past. We would set up our “silent garden” where we cultivated our shame in silence not telling anyone of the hurt that was put upon us. When you suffer in silence it keeps the secret alive, but once you tell the TRUTH it’s like cutting a major artery . . . it can’t live.

#DanceTherapy
Dance therapy – is a type of therapy that uses movement that can be beneficial for both physical and mental health, dance therapy can be used for stress reduction, disease prevention, and mood management. Dance can also boost a person’s mood, improve his or her body image, and provide an opportunity for fun that may lower overall stress and anxiety.
I just call it good medicine – it’s Friday so grab your platform shoes and shake that groove thing like nobody watching . . . unless you’re into that . . . no judgment here!
Peace Harmony & Keep on Dancin’!

Closing The
Summer Rental
for the Season
When the leaves are falling off the trees at summer homes or the snow has finally melted around the winter cabin, preparing to leave can be bittersweet.
There are many reasons to spend time closing a seasonal home properly including burst pipes, vandalism, rodents, and structural damage.
To avoid these pitfalls and make re-opening the summer home easier, here are 10 tips to help close your seasonal properties.
- Clean out the kitchen. Thoroughly clean out the refrigerator and unplug it; you don’t want mildew damaging your appliances in the spring. Also, clean the cabinets and cupboards.
- Clean out the living areas and bedrooms. Store away bedspreads and linens (use vacuum bags to store) — there is no place more comfortable for rodents to sleep than in your bedspread. Allow your cabin to breathe while you are away. Leave doors and drawers open to increase circulation.
- Block off the flues and stovepipes. Make sure you have closed the flue on your stove. Also, sealing flues and stovepipes with a metal cap should keep the birds and rodents out.
- Cover the windows. Plywood or thin sheet metal will do. Put handles on the outside of the wood (one on each side to make easy to pick up) and number the pieces to make next year’s close easier. Sealing your cottage will not only protect it from the weather but will also keep unwanted visitors away.
- Drain the pipes. Make certain that you drain and shut off your water before you leave for good. The last thing you want is for lingering water to freeze your pipes.
- Don’t forget the little things. Sometimes the little things are often overlooked. Make sure you forward your mail to your permanent address. Make sure your service contacts, like plumbers and electricians, know how to reach you away from the summer home. With my “snowbird” clients – I offer this service as part of my cleaning package.
- Consider security. If you are concerned about intruders, deadbolts are an option as well as hiring a year-round resident to keep his or her eyes out for you. You should also consider motion detector lights and security cameras to deter unwanted visitors.
- Remove fire hazards. This is as easy as removing all papers, newspapers, old rags, and chemicals, turning off all utilities and unplugging appliances.
- Secure outside furniture, equipment, and boats. Take the time to gather all outside furniture and clean it before you secure and cover it. Turn your small boats upside down and if there is a drain hole, open it up, making sure it is on the downhill side of any slope.
- Don’t Say Goodbye – Say So Long. Before you pull out of your driveway for the season, don’t be afraid to reflect on the wonderful season it has been. Think about all the new things that happened, special times you had and the long-lasting memories that still await. Reflection of time is priceless.
Peace Harmony & Happy Autumn!
